about

"What now for the future?
Trade in your computer,
or just listen to the music that you love?"

'Music Everywhere' was inspired by something Bill Drummond wrote in his book '45, about the ubiquity of music in the digital age. As summarised on seventeengallery.com "A time has arrived where we can (in theory and almost in practise) listen to any recorded music, from the entire history of recorded music, wherever, whenever, while doing whatever we want." David Bowie anticipated a similar thing when he said that, in the future, music would become a commodity like water, freely available 'on tap', thus predicting streaming services. My own feelings in 2015 reflected this - the mass and seemingly effortless availability of recorded music seemed to undermine its personal value to me. I had more music than I could possibly listen to! (Can you have too much of a good thing?!)
The introduction to 'Music Everywhere', narrated over a crackle of detuned radio, was read by the Bristol actor Craig Edwards.

lyrics

“As we edge our way deeper into the 21st century we will begin to want music that cannot be listened to wherever, whenever and doing whatever”

Wherever, whenever,
And doin’ whatever,
Wherever, whenever and doin’
Wherever, whenever,
And doin’ whatever,
Wherever, whenever and doin’

Stop just for a minute
I’ve just reached my limit
I can’t listen to another single song,
I’ve clogged up my hard drive
Got a massive archive
It would take me half my life to listen to

No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music

Music everywhere
Far too many files to share,
(Share, yeah..)

I’ve still got my vinyl
Side Two, then it’s final
I read through the lyrics
As I listen to…

No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music

Music everywhere
Far too many files to share
Ooooooo-ooooooooooooah!

Download, download, download, download
Download, download, download, download………………….

What now for the future?
Trade in your computer
Or just listen to the
music that you love

No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music
No-one listens to the music

Music everywhere
Far too many files to share
Music everywhere
Far too many files to share

Wherever, whenever,
And doin’ whatever,
Wherever, whenever and doin’
Wherever, whenever,
And doin’ whatever,
Wherever, whenever and doin’
Whatever!

about

Glass Angel Bristol, UK

Glass Angel were active between 2015 and 2020. They released their debut album as a New Wave Indie quartet, in 2017. ‘In Dreams We Fly’ was described as a ‘masterclass in songwriting’ and ‘a powerpop kaleidoscope and punk pop as f**k’.
The group then recorded the 'Fight or Nah?' EP’ as a trio, just before the first Covid lockdown. They have been on indefinite hiatus since its 2020 release.
